This unusual exhibit depicts the Ituri Rainforest region in the Democratic
Republic of the Congo. This area is home to numerous unusual endemic species
of animals including the Okapi (the Giraffe’s closest relative).
Other species to be exhibited include the Bongo, Yellow Backed and Blue
Duikers, the Red River Hog, Dwarf Nile Crocodile, Turaco, Congo Peafowl
and numerous reptiles and insects. The Ituri is also home to several groups
of native peoples including the Mbuti and the Leti. And in addition to
exhibiting the animals, the exhibit is intended to also interpret the
lifestyles of the native peoples in the rainforest. |
