Janssen Park is a 10-acre historic park in the downtown area of Mena, AR. The park was destroyed by a tornado on November 13, 1993. MESA was contracted to work with the city of Mena to develop a master plan for the restoration of this important community landmark. The master plan provided phasing over a five-year period to bring the park back to its full use. Improvements include a new accessible playground, extensive planting of over 200 trees replace those destroyed in the tornado, new and additional picnic facilities and pavilions, paved walking/jogging trail, a memorial plaza and garden, and improvements to the existing duck pond and restrooms, and an outdoor performance area. MESA assisted in the submittal of numerous successful grant applications which have helped fund all improvements to date.
